Independence Day

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July!  We all did!

Dad took us to the movies that afternoon to see Kit Kittredge: An American Girl.  We had all been looking forward to it, especially C, who owns the Kit doll.  (See photos of all our dolls here)  The movie was great – we would definitely recommend it!  For those of you who aren’t familiar with Kit, she’s a 9-year-old girl living in the 1930’s with her family, as well as with some boarders that they take in to help pay the bills.  In the movie, some money ends up being stolen and they have to solve the mystery.

After we got home, we ate dinner and then watched fireworks from our backyard.  We also played with some sparklers.

Shrewsbury Lasses

We have a new favorite dance: The Shrewsbury Lasses!  We’re in the process of watching Pride and Prejudice (A&E version) and we discovered it there.  It’s the dance that Elizabeth and Mr. Collins are in.  “Other way, Mr. Collins!” ☺ We were wondering what we looked like doing it, so we took a video.  ☺ The “gentlemen” line is on the right, with the ladies on the left.

Here is the clip that we watched over and over again to learn it.  It was difficult because the camera always moves to Mr. Darcy.  But we found these intstructions, so we put two and two together, and it fit. ☺ After a lot of practice, that is. (The actual dance is from 3:55 to 5:40)

Stack of Worn Hardcover Books with Yellowed Pages Photographic Print

I thought it’d be fun for us all to share what our favorite books and movies are currently.  I’ll start…

I’ve always had a hard time pinpointing my favorite book as there are so many good books out there and I’m constantly changing my mind.  For the time being, my favorite book is The Prize Winner of Defiance, OhioSome of you may have noticed that it’s in our “books we’re reading” list over there on the right.  It is a true story about a family with ten children who lived in the 1950’s.  I am almost done reading it, and I can’t tell you how many times it has made me laugh out loud!  I find myself sharing bits of it with whoever happens to be in the area just because it is so funny.

As far as movies go, I keep coming back to the Anne of Green Gables trilogy.  We saw them last summer for the first time and then caught them again on television recently.  I had forgotten how much I had enjoyed them the first time.  They are wholesome, heartwarming, and humorous.  Megan Follows  plays the part of Anne Shirley beautifully.  If you have not seen these movies, you are really missing out!

Now it’s your turn!  What are your favorite books and movies?
