Back in June, I planted some sunflower seeds. Only one plant survived and it has finally bloomed! It was a lot of fun to go outside every morning to see how the bud had changed. These are some pictures of the different stages of the flower opening.

Just a little tip: If you are going out of town for two weeks, ask a neighbour to water your plants for you.

Renewed Hope

Our first attempt at gardening didn’t turn out very well.  We tried a few more times, and they failed as well.  But this batch we planted last month is doing great!  We’re very excited; we were beginning to fear that we all have black thumbs (as opposed to green ones :) ).

Our soil here isn’t very good, so we decided to plant in pots and just leave them outdoors.  The first photo is of some herbs, and the second is of sunflowers.

My poor baby broccoli and cauliflowers are officially dead.  A few weeks ago, on a trip to Home Depot, I decided to try my hand at gardening.  As you can see, my first attempt didn’t turn out so well.  I don’t know where I went wrong… I watered them, gave them sun, followed all the directions on the seed packet, and even gave them plant food.  Oh well.  Maybe next time I’ll plant directly in the ground or try flowers.
