Feminine Friday – Encouraging Gentlemen
January 9, 2009 at 7:03 am | In Bible Verses, Feminine Friday, K's Posts | 5 Comments
Today for Feminine Friday, I would like to talk about how we as girls can encourage the men in our lives (ie: brothers, dad, etc.) in their God-given roles. The Lord has impressed this upon my heart more and more of late, and it is so important to be aware of. I think we forget sometimes what a powerful influence we have as young ladies on members of the opposite gender. Are you making a conscious decision to use this influence for good?
If you are blessed with one or more brothers or a dad at home, you have the incredible opportunity to help them grow in their gentlemanly-ness or not. Scripture tells us to “…exhort one another daily, while it is called today…” (Hebrews 3:13) Men have a distinct, God-given role. It is our responsibility as women to encourage them in that role and not take it on as our own. If we, as young ladies, refuse the gentlemanly service men are supposed to give, we are not taking on our God-given role but living with a feminist mindset.
Proverbs 12:4 says, “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.” This verse is obviously talking about a married woman, but I believe the truth can still be applied in the lives of those of us who aren’t married. The point is, we have the capability of tearing down the men in our lives (and making their bones rotten!) if we aren’t careful with our words and actions. Here are several practical things I’ve found I can do to be encouraging to the men in my life to be the gentlemen they are called to be. (Side note: It is always safest to use these ideas with your brothers and dad primarily, if you are able.)
:: Act like a lady (They will then be more prone to act like a gentleman.)
:: Have patience (Wait for them to open the door for you when you are in the car, don’t be in a hurry.)
:: Practice humility (Take the help, even if you don’t think you need it, for they will be blessed for their service.)
:: Express gratitude (Always let them know how apppreciative you are of their kindness.)
This is by no means an exhaustive list. I am still learning and growing in this area. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the subject as well! In what ways do you encourage your brothers to be Godly gentlemen?
Feminine Friday – Mending Modesty skirts

At the ATI conference we went to in Nashville this summer, we met Kayla, a 16-year-old girl who has her own business sewing and selling skirts called Mending Modesty. I was so excited to see a place where I could buy long, modest skirts as they are so hard to find in the stores these days! I recently ordered two of them, and am very pleased. Kayla is such a talented seamstress! The skirts are lovely and make me feel so feminine. Now I’m passing on the word…

Thank you, Kayla, for mending modesty!
Feminine Friday – Hairstyle Tutorial

For Feminine Friday today, I would like to share with you a hairstyle tutorial. One of our favorite ways to express our femininity and love of girly things is through our hairstyles. We each have long hair, as you know, and that is one of the easiest ways to show that you are a girl. That’s not to say that there is anything wrong with short hair, though. It can go both ways as I have seen short hairstyles that still look feminine. Just as long as you look like and are glad to be a young lady!
Have you ever thanked God for hair? Hair is just one of the many blessings God has given to us as girls. Hair adds so much to a person’s countenance as a whole and provides another aspect of fun to a girl’s life, don’t you think so? I have to remember to be grateful that I have hair on my head in the first place regardless of how uncooperative with me it may be.
Now for the tutorial. This hairstyle is something like the Regency updo at In Timely Fashion. It works best with curly or wavy hair.
Twist up hair and secure with clips.
Take small sections of hair and wrap around your fingers to form a small loop. Secure one side of the loop down with clip.
Continue until all the hair is up in little loops, like so:
In the picture below, I added some bobby pins with beaded flowers and butterflies on them for a touch of cuteness.

And here’s our lovely model, Stephanie.
Feminine Friday
November 7, 2008 at 1:03 pm | In Feminine Friday, K's Posts | 3 CommentsWe were inspired by the recent comment from A Still Small Voice suggesting that we do a post on Biblical girlhood and the role of young women with the idea for “Feminine Fridays”. On these “Feminine Fridays”, we will post anything having to do with Biblical femininity such as dress, attitudes, relationships, etc.
For our first Feminine Friday post, we would like to share with you what we see as an invaluable resource. I’m not sure if we have mentioned it before, but you may have noticed that my mother, sisters, and I try to dress modestly and in a way which will not cause our brothers in Christ to stumble. Our family has held this conviction for several years.

However, the definition of ”modest” is often difficult to pinpoint by we girls who don’t think in the same way men do. That is why we found the Modesty Survey to be so helpful. It is a survey conducted by the Harris brothers of The Rebelution and filled out by many Christian young men. The Modesty Survey lets us girls know exactly what may be a stumbling block to guys. I personally learned a lot by reading the answers on the survey and was greatly encouraged by it. I know this resource has been around for quite awhile now, and it is likely that many of you are aware of it, but I believe it is worth emphasizing again. I enjoy referring back to the survey myself when I need some encouragement. If you’ve never read the Modesty Survey, I urge you to look it over with an open mind and heart.
