Lovely Little Box: A Tutorial

Now isn’t that cute? Whether you are giving a gift or looking for a way to store your earring collection, I have an idea for you! Make this adorable paper box… it won’t take you more than ten minutes.
First, start out with two pieces of coordinating cardstock, one measuring 7″ x 3″ (on right in photo below), and one 4 1/2″ square (on left).

Score the 7″ x 3″ rectangle three inches from each side lengthwise, then fold. (As pictured below)

Cut one inch into each edge of the square piece and score the rest of the way down. (As pictured below)

Using the adhesive of your choice (glue or scrapbooking tape works well), assemble box. Adhere square paper to bottom inside of rectangle, folding the four flaps inside.

Add finishing touches. I rounded the corners of the lid and added ribbon to close it. The possibilities are endless. Have fun!

We went to our favorite scrapbooking store a couple weeks ago and made quite a few cards. Here are some photos of them.

Life Update
March 31, 2009 at 12:20 pm | In Craft Projects, K's Posts, Photos | 2 CommentsSince we were busy blogging daily commentaries for the Scripture memory challenge this month, we didn’t have time to write about anything else going on in our lives. A lot’s been happening here at home, so let’s see if we can give you a re-cap…
:: A lot of time in March was spent working on craft projects to enter in our county youth fair. We did enough sewing, knitting, painting, gluing, crocheting, stitching, and general creating to last us a good while.
Here are a few pictures of various projects our family entered.

:: One weekend, our parents went to Atlanta by themselves for a conference. It was a challenging weekend for us children at home on our own, but, praise God, we survived! No major emergencies, and we even potty-trained the twins. Cherry, the baby, missed Mommy especially, and was so happy to see her again!
:: March 27th was the scheduled day of my (Kayla’s) first CLEP test as a Verity dual-enrollmentstudent. I had been studying for this Humanities CLEP exam for six interesting weeks learning about everything from classic literature to art history to classical music. Praise the Lord for answered prayers because I passed! This week, I’m starting another six-week study schedule for a CLEP, this time for English Composition.
:: Last week, our grandma had a birthday. A few days later, she started having some internal bleeding and was admitted to the hospital. She is still there, now in the ICU, while they are trying to determine the cause of the bleeding and stop it. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

ePatterns at Sense and Sensibility
November 8, 2008 at 8:00 am | In Craft Projects, Frugality, S's Posts | 4 CommentsHave you ever seen the lovely patterns available from Sense and Sensibility? I love their Regency gowns, and I’ve been wanting to make a little girl’s one for Baby C.
They have just come out with new ePatterns, which you can download in a PDF file, and print out of your computer. This makes it so convenient! You don’t have to wait for your pattern to be shipped, you can keep the file and print out another pattern if you misplace one, and the ePatterns are also less expensive! So far they have all the Regency patterns available as ePatterns, and also the Edwardian Apron and 1910s Tea Gown. So go check them out!
Paper Crafting Thursday
October 30, 2008 at 8:04 am | In Craft Projects, K's Posts, Paper Crafting Thursday, Photos | 8 CommentsOne of my favorite crafts is card making. I love to make cards for birthdays, thank yous, Christmas, and just any old time! Handmade cards are so much more fun to receive than store bought ones, in my opinion.
Kelli of No Place Like Home hosts Paper Crafting Thursday where you can post about your paper creation and sign her Mr. Linky for a chance to win a prize! I thought it’d be a lot of fun to participate, so here I am. This is a picture of a card I made this week for a friend’s birthday. I used some odd pieces of scrapbook paper from our scrap folder (always a fun place – you never know what you might find!) and some bubble letter stickers to spell out “happy b day.” I like the way it turned out – simple and pretty.
Homemade Yogurt and Granola
October 2, 2008 at 3:00 pm | In Craft Projects, Frugality, Photos, Recipes, S's Posts | 5 CommentsLast week my pen pal Serenity sent me a recipe for homemade granola. I have always wanted to try my hand at making homemade yogurt, so I decided this was the perfect time to try both! I used this recipe (on the right of the page) for the yogurt.
The milk mixture is heating up… then cooling down in the sink.
The jars ready for yogurt — Incubating in the oven
The granola turned out great! – Ready to eat granola and yogurt
Everyone loved it! The two quarts of yogurt only lasted a few days… I think I’ll be making this quite often in the future!
Apron Swap Update
September 15, 2008 at 6:10 pm | In Craft Projects, K's Posts | Leave a CommentNow that our first apron swap has officially come to a close I thought I would give an update. Most everyone has e-mailed to let me know that they have sent and received their aprons, but if you have not received yours, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me!
Most of you have also sent in pictures of your lovely aprons…I have been adding them to the link on the top right corner of this page entitled “Apron Swap!” To those of you who didn’t participate in the swap, be sure to check out all of the wonderful work these ladies have done!
We really enjoyed hosting this swap and hope you all have enjoyed participating. It is our prayer that you will be reminded by this apron to serve the Lord through serving your family whether you are preparing meals, cleaning house, or anything in between!
Frog Quilt
September 10, 2008 at 4:31 pm | In A's Posts, Craft Projects, Photos | 4 CommentsThis is my latest project. I started it about a month ago but it won’t be finished for awhile yet because the bobbin case on my mom’s sewing machine broke.
I had just started the quilting process. This is a picture of the quilt top.
And this is a close up on the frog fabric. Can you see the little bees in the corner?

Room Photos
September 3, 2008 at 6:16 pm | In Craft Projects, Photos, S's Posts | 2 CommentsHere are some photos from our newly painted bedroom! The look isn’t quite completed yet, as we’d like to add some curtains (probably a white valance), a new bedspread for K (her current one is purple/green), and a rug. We’re pleased with how it looks so far, though! The pink was at first a little brighter than what we thought it would be, but it’s turned out nice.
In the photo below, the pink looks slightly darker.
