Paper Crafting Thursday
October 30, 2008 at 8:04 am | In Craft Projects, K's Posts, Paper Crafting Thursday, Photos | 8 CommentsOne of my favorite crafts is card making. I love to make cards for birthdays, thank yous, Christmas, and just any old time! Handmade cards are so much more fun to receive than store bought ones, in my opinion.
Kelli of No Place Like Home hosts Paper Crafting Thursday where you can post about your paper creation and sign her Mr. Linky for a chance to win a prize! I thought it’d be a lot of fun to participate, so here I am. This is a picture of a card I made this week for a friend’s birthday. I used some odd pieces of scrapbook paper from our scrap folder (always a fun place – you never know what you might find!) and some bubble letter stickers to spell out “happy b day.” I like the way it turned out – simple and pretty.
Check out our new About page!
October 25, 2008 at 11:00 pm | In K's Posts | Leave a CommentWe’ve just revamped our About page! We figured that we have changed a lot in the last year, and it was time for something new. This week, we had our own little photo shoot in the backyard and took some new photos of us three girls. We hope you enjoy them!
Another big change we are making to this blog is the names we are going to go by. All of this last year, we have been known as K, S, and A. After discussing the matter with our parents, we have decided to now go by our full first names. Those of you who we are fortunate to know and see in person (or through e-mail/letters) already know our names, but I’m sure there are a few of you who don’t.
We will also no longer be posting in the three different colors, but in just plain black most of the time. To distinguish our posts from one another, they will be tagged K’s Posts, S’s Posts, or A’s Posts as they have been in the past. So, just take a look at the top of the post to see who it’s tagged under if you want to know who’s writing. Anyways, go check out the page and let us know what you think!
Birthday Photos

Celebrating at Chipotle
Last month we viewed “The Railway Children” for the first time, and loved it. We liked the song that Roberta’s family sang to her on her birthday, so some of us sang it to A yesterday. In an English accent, of course.
It goes like this:
Our darling Roberta – No sorrow shall hurt her – If we can prevent it – Her whole life long – We’ll give here a fete day – And make it a great day – And give her our presents – And sing her our song
She received a sewing basket, some tea and honey sticks, and a lovely mini cake stand that will be nice for serving tea party treats on.

Blogoversary Giveaway!
October 17, 2008 at 7:34 pm | In Giveaways, K's Posts, Photos | 8 CommentsThe month of October marks our 1 year Blogoversary! To celebrate, we decided to host a few giveaways for our loyal readers. We have so enjoyed this year of blogging – writing, reading, and meeting so many great people! We pray the Lord’s blessings on each one of you!
To start off, I will be giving away three items handmade by me. The first is a half-apron I made out of some pretty rose and paisley fabric. I just love aprons! Whenever I wear one, I feel so productive and pretty even if I’m doing a not-so-pretty job.
The second item I’m giving away is a journal. It is a composition notebook I covered in fun scrapbooking paper following this tutorial at Delightful Hands.
Lastly, I made this cute little pin cushion…
So, here’s what you have to do to enter this giveaway: Just leave a comment on this post. We would also appreciate it if you could answer one or more of the questions below in your comment. This is completely optional, but would help us out tremendously.
-
How long have you been reading Princesses in Disguise?
-
What would you like to see more of on our blog?
-
What would you like to see less of on our blog?
On November 1st, I will randomly draw a winner from the comments. Sound good? S and A are working on their own giveaways, and should have those up shortly, so keep an eye out!
Thank you all so much for stopping by and commenting all this last year! We wouldn’t have enjoyed this endeavor half as much if it weren’t for your uplifting visits and comments!

Random Tag
October 14, 2008 at 6:37 pm | In A's Posts, K's Posts, S's Posts | 1 CommentWe’ve been wanting to post a special video for several days now, but for some reason, it isn’t cooperating. For now, we’ll give you some very random, little-known facts about ourselves. We were tagged by Miss Serenity at her lovely blog, Femininity in a Feminist World to do this. The rules are as follows:
-
Link to the person who tagged you.
-
Post the rules on your blog.
-
Write six random things about yourself.
-
Tag six-or-so people at the bottom of your post -
-
And leave a comment on one of their recent posts letting them know they’ve been tagged.
-
Let the person who tagged you know you’ve written the post.
I’ll start…
1. The first meal I learned to cook was scrambled eggs when I was about 8 years old.
2. I once cut my knee on the edge of a concrete parking stop while trying to walk on it like a balance beam. I had to get five stitches and I now sport a nice little scar.
3. My favorite book of the Bible is James.
4. I have reading logs of all the chapter books I have ever read starting from when I was 7 years old.
5. My hair grows extremely quickly!
6. I play with my ears when I’m tired and have done so since I was a baby.
Here are mine…
1. I am allergic to cats and shellfish.
2. When I was three years old and K was five, she told me to jump off the top bunk of our bunkbed. I was hesitant, but she persuaded me by jumping off herself, and piling pillows on the floor for me to fall on. I ended up breaking my leg.
3. An embarrassing moment of mine… Once, I was writing a silly e-mail to my dad while he was at work and I accidentally sent it to the police department. I was horrified until an error message came saying that it had gone to their spam folder.
4. I once made a list of at least twenty careers I’ve wanted to have at one point or another. It includes Ultrasound Technician, Veterinarian and Kindergarten Teacher.
5. I am a visual learner. If I can just see something written out, I remember it so much better than if I’m told something.
6. Though I’m not very picky when it comes to food, there are two things I don’t enjoy (unless they’re baked into bread or cookies, etc.): raisins and bananas.
And last of all, here’s A’s list:
1. I like to read books over and over. I’ve been through the first book in the Elsie Dinsmore series at least four times.
2. I’ve never had any broken bones or stitches, though I have been to the emergency room once for what I thought was a broken arm, but turned out be just badly sprained.
3. My favorite flowers are pansies and orchids.
4. I have a natural blonde birthmark of hair on the back of my head. You could see it on my head even when I was a baby and was bald.
5. I always close the door of my bedroom before I go to bed. I’m not sure why, but I can’t sleep if it is open.
6. I’ve always had an interest in being a hair dresser. When I was three years old, I snuck into my parents bathroom, got out some scissors, and, thinking that I needed “just a trim”, I cut off my long hair. My mother had to take me to her hair dresser to get it “fixed.”
We are tagging…

Another Birthday
October 7, 2008 at 8:37 pm | In Events, Family, Photos, S's Posts | 7 CommentsSaturday was our sister C’s 10th birthday! Our parents allow us to have our ears pierced when we turn ten-years-old, and C has been looking forward to it for a while.
So, after a basketball game that morning, we took her to the mall.
Afterwards we headed to Swensen’s, a restaurant we also went to when K and A turned ten.
September in Books
October 3, 2008 at 1:10 pm | In A's Posts, Books, K's Posts, S's Posts | 4 CommentsWe’ve decided to start sharing a list of the books we have finished reading in the past month. Here’s the first list, for September:
K: This month I finished three books. I feel like I read a lot more, but I’m still working on several. You can look for those next month.
The first book I finished this month was Emotional Purity by Heather Paulsen. I can’t recommend this highly enough! Heather talks about the importance of not only physical purity before marriage, but also emotional and spiritual purity. She gives Biblical, practical guidelines for treating your friends of the opposite gender. It really caused me to think about my own life and change my mindset when it comes to having Godly, edifying friendships that don’t cause us to give away my heart and emotions prematurely. This book is for both guys and girls, so I would encourage you to read it and then have your brothers do the same! If I were a guy, I would definitely appreciate the advice Heather gives in this book about treating girls in a way which helps them to guard their hearts.
The second book I finished this month was Secrets of the Vine by Bruce Wilkinson. I had to read this for a school project when we were learning about pruning - physical trees and our spiritual lives! It really encouraged me to evaluate my own life and ask God what needed to be pruned from my heart. I learned from this book that God really does want our lives to be overflowing with fruitfulness for Him, but we are the ones holding ourselves back. The author goes through the text in John 15 step by step sharing how God wants us to respond to His pruning and how abiding in Him will bring the most fruit. All in all, a very thought-provoking book and a good, quick read!
The third book I finished in September was His Princess: Love Letters from Your King by Sheri Rose Shepherd. A girlfriend from church lent us this book, and I really enjoyed reading a little bit of it each day with my devotions. It has many notes to you and I as God’s princesses, exhorting us in different areas such as waiting on Him, loving others, keeping the tongue, and guarding the heart. I loved how Ms. Shepherd compiled and arranged several different passages of scripture to convey the Lord’s thoughts and feelings toward us as His daughters. It seemed that each day, the letter I read spoke to me concerning something that I was dealing with or feelings I was struggling with.
S: Wow, I too thought I had read much more this month, but apparently I only completed two books. Here they are…
Ester Ried: Asleep and Awake by Isabella Alden - I loved this book! You can read my review of it here and see what my friend Serenity’s says about it here.
The Art of Speed Reading People: How to Size People Up and Speak Their Language by Paul and Barbara Tieger – This is a book I found fascinating! It’s all about how to figure out people’s personalities (based on Myers-Briggs types). I learned so much about myself from this book, and now that I’ve finished it, I’m ready to try the skills out on others and connect with them better. I have already started “Speed Reading” – a couple of my friends and siblings confirmed their Myers-Briggs personalities to me, and I had guessed right! (In case you’re fascinated by personalities too, and are wondering… K is an ESTJ, I am an ENFP, and A is an INFJ.
)
A: This month I’ve been reading The Chronicles of Narnia series. Some friends had taken me to see the movie Prince Caspian back in May (though I hadn’t seen the first one) and I really enjoyed it. I started reading the series in early September and I’ve just finished #4, The Silver Chair (I’m reading the books in the order C.S. Lewis wrote them). They are really good books, if you like fantasy. I like how C.S. Lewis wrote them like he is telling the story to children.
