A Birthday
August 29, 2008 at 9:07 pm | In Events, Family, Photos, S's Posts | 2 CommentsLast Monday was our little sister K’s birthday! She turned eight-years-old, and had a great day going shopping, celebrating with ice cream cake, eating at Chipotle, and opening presents from her grandparents and family.
She asked for this “ATM” bank that will add up your money as you deposit it.

Little K loves horses (and just about every kind of animal, in fact!), so most of the presents she received went along with that theme.

At Chipotle
Here she is with a card that our 5-year-old brother made for her.
We were planning on making this chocolate pie for K on her birthday, per her request, but we didn’t read the recipe through. We found out too late that you must refrigerate it for four hours. So, we enjoyed it the day after.
Home Sweet Home
August 24, 2008 at 11:01 pm | In Craft Projects, Events, K's Posts, Photos | 7 CommentsWell, I had a wonderful time in Dallas, TX at FOID (Foundations of Interior Design), but it’s great to be home! Even though I called home around twice each day, I missed being able to talk to my family in person. Although, I did have fun making new friends.
I took lots of pictures, so I’ll share a few here and try to describe some of what we learned and did.
This is the skyline of downtown Dallas. It was really cloudy the first few days. On the right is the “drapery room” where we cut our fabric for the drapes we made.
Every morning, we worked in the sewing room on the 6th floor of the DMC (Dallas Ministry Center). I made the two right panels (sheer and blackout) while my sewing partner (pictured below in yellow) made the two left panels. We made them for a real window that is in one of the rooms at the DMC (room 313, to be exact). In these photos, I was pressing my pleats on the sheer and sewing a hem on the blackout.
For an hour every afternoon, we worked on our design board projects. We each had to design a room and pick out a color scheme, fabric, furniture, etc. and even draw a floor plan for it. In this pic, we were working hard to finish our boards late Thursday night. We presented them to the rest of the group on Friday.
The picture on the right is three of us in a lighting store on a window shopping outing. We visited Knox Street, a street lined with furniture and lighting stores such as Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Wier’s Furniture, etc. We had an assignment where we had to find different kinds of lighting and color schemes and describe them in detail as if we were describing them to a client.
After we finished window shopping, we had some extra time and laughed and talked at Starbucks for awhile. The picture on the right is of the enormous math problem we had to do to figure out how many pleats to put on our drapes and how big they had to be. Ugh!
This is me and my sewing partner hanging our drapes and enjoying the satisfaction of finishing our project! Yay, we’re actually done! Just as a side note: the top treatment is old and will be replaced eventually. We were going to learn how to make one that week, but ran out of time and weren’t able to.
Here, I was giving my design board presentation. I made an informal family room. Lastly, is the whole class with our instructor (light blue shirt, sitting on the floor) and our window!!
Update
August 19, 2008 at 8:50 pm | In Craft Projects, Events, Photos, S's Posts | 5 CommentsHi, everyone! We’re sorry that our updates have been so scarce – we’ve been pretty busy lately! K is out of town this week. She’s at an interior design class. While she’s gone, we’ve been working on painting the girls bedroom – pink! Pink Moment, I should say. It’s the second color from the top on this sample.
And here’s our room, so you can see where it will be going:
Our mom painted our room pale yellow eight or nine years ago, and added a heart border along the ceiling, which was a lot of work. We’ll be sad to see the hearts go, but we’re looking forward to the change.

A Day at the Beach
August 11, 2008 at 3:11 pm | In Baby C, Events, Family, K's Posts, Photos | 3 CommentsLast Friday, we went to the beach for the first time this summer. Even though we live about 20 minutes away from the ocean, we hardly ever visit it. I guess we take it for granted, but it’s nice to know it’s close by.
So, last week we decided to go… We went with some friends and had a blast! The water was great and we rented an umbrella and chairs. We are so pale that it would have been brutal without it and the usual sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses.
The boys enjoyed getting dirty, of course.
Baby C enjoyed playing in the ocean for the first time ever.
It was a relaxing summer day.
“And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1:10)

Brilliante Blog Award
August 3, 2008 at 8:33 pm | In S's Posts | 5 CommentsWe just received a blog award (one of those things that get passed around) from The Buggy Crew! Here’s what she said about our blog:
Princesses in Disguise is a blog written by three sisters, who are daughters of one of my IRL friends. They do a fantastic job of encouraging young women and sharing their life in a large family. I enjoy reading their blog and getting perspective from the “younger set”.
Thank you for the encouragement! Here’s our list of seven blogs we think deserve the “Brilliante Weblog Award”:
1. Cabbages and Kings is a wonderful blog written by a young lady friend we know in real life. It’s a mere part of her website, Handmaidens of the Shepherd. You are sure to find inspiration for all things pertaining to Biblical young womanhood there.
2. Handmaiden’s sister runs a nature photoblog, Nature that Defies Evolution, (among other features) on her website, A Still Small Voice. She also has a blog called Homemaker’s Cabinet with many great project ideas.
3. Danielle at Bookworm 4 God, another friend we know in real life, started her blog a few months ago. She’s not afraid to write about her convictions and beliefs.
4. Pearls and Diamonds is an encouraging blog written by two sisters-in-law for young ladies.
5. Serenity at Femininity in a Feminist World just started her blog for young ladies. I’ve been pen pals with her for two years now. She writes about living in a large family and being a “Mother in Training.”
6. Most of you have probably heard of Young Ladies Christian Fellowship. We love their articles. Their wise words of experience are invaluable.
7. Kayla at Rose Petal Tea is a friend I met at the ATI conference. She has a lovely blog where she writes about what the Lord has been teaching her. She is also a great promoter of dressing modestly and has her own business where she sells cute homemade skirts.
Congrats! Y’all are brilliante!
