Quote of the Day

I hope you all are having an enjoyable weekend with your families. We are looking forward to tomorrow when we will celebrate the resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ! After church, we are going to have a baptism and eat lunch. For now, I’ll leave you with a verse from one of my family’s favorite hymns, “And Can It Be?”
He left His Father’s throne above
So free, so infinite His grace—
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!
’Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!
I just adore that line “…emptied Himself of all but love…”. I can only hope that I never take His love for granted, but thank Him for it each and every day!

You know you live in a large family when…
March 19, 2008 at 2:32 pm | In A's Posts, Family, K's Posts, S's Posts | 4 Comments…only half of your family is out and about and someone asks “Are they all yours?”
…before opening a box of a dozen donuts, you remind everyone to only eat one each.
…your first thoughts upon entering a restaurant are “Which tables should we push together?”
…there is a continuous line of at least two people waiting to use the computer.
…you can’t remember the last time you sat in a booth at a restaurant.
…you run the dishwasher at least four times a day.
…your family’s file at the pediatrician is about four inches thick.
…there are perpetual dirty and clean laundry mountains.
…you have at least six different varieties of cereal in your pantry at all times.
…you have at least five different kinds of salad dressing in your refrigerator at all times.
…the very thought of being at home alone or sleeping in a room by yourself freaks you out.
…you realize that the outfit your 7-year-old sister is wearing used to be yours.
…you always have enough people to play a board game.
…you go through a half gallon of ice cream in one night.
…you have to take turns sitting on one of the two couches while watching a movie together.
…there is such a large age difference between the oldest and youngest that people ask you (the oldest), “How old is your baby?”
…everyone (except the baby and the parents) sleeps in bunkbeds.
…you realize that if you and each one of your siblings has the same amount of children as your parents do, your parents will have 100 grandchildren.

Have you ever heard the quote, “The nice part about being a pessimist is that you are constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised”? I never liked that quote. It tricks people into desiring to be a pessimist. Whenever I heard it I would wish that there were as witty a quote to defend optimists.
That’s what I personally lean towards: optimism. I suppose that’s why I was indignant about that quote. ☺ But I have found one, finally, for us optimists. It comes from Emma by Jane Austen.
“…A sanguine temper, though for ever expecting more good than occurs, does not always pay for its hopes by any proportionate depression. It soon flies over the present failure, and begins to hope again.”
Though it’s not very witty, and not the sort of quote you could memorize and use as a quick defence when someone mentions the pessimist one, I like it. I felt vindicated as I read it. ☺
Show & Tell Friday
March 7, 2008 at 6:09 pm | In K's Posts, Photos | 10 CommentsFor show and tell today I’d like to share a picture of an embroidery project I completed recently. I am quite glad to be finished with it as I started it several years ago. I plan to enter it in our county fair later this month and then keep it for my future home.

A bit about the frame: my mom and I took the project to Michael’s to have it framed professionally. Little did we know just how costly it would be; they wanted $104.00! Needless to say, we ended up buying a frame and doing it ourselves. It took a little effort, but I think it turned out nicely. Don’t forget to check out There is No Place Like Home for more showing-and-telling. ☺
And They’re Off!
March 5, 2008 at 6:56 pm | In Photos, S's Posts | 3 CommentsAfter having braces for three years, they’re finally off! Well, the top set, at least. The bottom ones will have to wait a while. But I’m still happy; now my smile shows no metal!
I’ve been looking at some photos from before braces… This one was taken the day I got them. (I can’t seem to get this photo clear. You can click on it for a big, clear version.)
And these are from today, right after they came off. Oh, and the balloons in the picture on the bottom are from my orthodontist. ☺
Tuesday Review: PraiseMoves
March 4, 2008 at 5:16 pm | In K's Posts, Tuesday Reviews | 2 CommentsHomekeeping Heart is now hosting a Tuesday Review every week, and I thought I’d join in today.
If you’re looking for a wonderful exercise program, I wholeheartedly recommend PraiseMoves. PraiseMoves is a Christian alternative to yoga. Laurette Willis, the founder of PraiseMoves, was heavily involved in yoga and other New Age activities before she became a Christian. After coming to Christ and giving up yoga, she used her knowledge of exercise to design the PraiseMoves DVD.
PraiseMoves is the most pleasant exercise program I have ever seen. Scripture is repeated throughout the workout, and the postures or positions for stretching are modeled after Biblical concepts (i.e. The Rainbow, The Prayer Warrior, Mount Zion, etc.). The women who workout on the DVD are always dressed in modest, loose fitting clothing, and hymns are played during the whole workout.
If you want an exercise program that stretches you physically as well as spiritually, give PraiseMoves a try. And if you’d like to see more Tuesday Reviews, go to Homekeeping Heart.
“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
