Driving 101

A few months back I took a Driver’s Education class on Florida Virtual School.  Two weeks ago, I got my restricted license.  Last weekend, while camping, I had my first real driving experience.

My dad and I rode around the campground a few times, and then went outside the park.  My siblings took pictures, of course, to record the event.  Here they are…

Camping

Well, it took longer than we thought it would to get back on track after our weekend camping, and then Christmas came… so, finally, here’s a look at our trip.

We had a great time camping at Highlands Hammock State Park.  We arrived late Friday night and left Monday morning.  The first night was rainy, so we opted to eat at Wendy’s before arriving at the campground.  We ended up getting there around nine, and then we set up our two tents, heading to bed around twelve.

Saturday was spent at the camp’s playground and around the campfire, with a quick trip into town for supplies.  The weather was better, with only a few shorts bursts of rain.

Sunday morning was the same, and then it started getting chilly in the evening.  By midnight the temperature was in the 30’s, making it difficult to sleep for us thin-blooded Floridians.

All in all, we had quite an adventurous weekend, what with arriving so late the first night and the sporadic weather.  It was fun, with activities such as shuffleboard, reading, chatting by the fire, card games, and, of course, s’mores. ☺

Hi everyone!  Just wanted to let you all know that this will be the last post until next week.  Tomorrow is going to be busy due to hospital (S and I are volunteers) and quilt class (last one!), and then we’re going camping Friday through Monday.  Hope ya’ll have a great weekend!  I’m sure we’ll have lots to talk about when we get back!  ☺

This morning we went to Key Biscayne to snap some pictures.  We’ll be using one for our Christmas cards this year.

This is the one we chose… Everyone looks pretty good.  The only catch is that K.A. (in front with the white jacket) is looking to the left.

Here’s one of all the girls…

Bedroom Turned Playroom

To continue with our tour of the rooms we rearranged, here are some before and after pictures of the playroom.

Before:

(It used to be S and C’s bedroom.)

I believe the toys have been much more managable in this room, all in one place.  We just do a quick tidy daily, and everything stays under control.

This morning, C made her debut!  She played baby Jesus in a church’s Christmas musical.  She was a natural (she slept the whole time), and she’s ready to do it again tonight.  Here she is with Mary and the Wise Men backstage.

Her part consisted of laying in Mary’s arms on-stage while the shepherds and Wise Men all bowed in front of her.  As I said, she was great.  When she was first asked to do it, we joked around, saying, “She’s only two-months-old and she’s already getting requests for her great talent!”  Now I’m her talent agent.  I’ll be reviewing all the scripts and requests that come in. ☺

Double Trouble or Double Blessing?

Twins.  What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you see that word?  Do you cringe or smile inwardly?  It all depends on your perspective.

A little more than three years ago, while laying in bed, I asked God if He could give our family twins.  I’m not sure exactly why I prayed that prayer.  Perhaps I thought our life wasn’t exciting enough right then.  ☺  Whatever the reason, God had an amazing plan.  I didn’t know it at that time, but my sisters S and A had also prayed the same prayer I did that night.

Fast forward a few months, and my mom was pregnant.  This would be the 8th child for our family, and we were thrilled.  At that time, I had completely forgotten about my prayer for twins, but God hadn’t.  ☺

I remember the day of my mother’s ultrasound like it was yesterday.  All of a sudden, I was reminded of the time I had prayed for twins.  In the hours leading up to my mom’s appointment, I felt an overwhelming desire for there to be twin babies.  We all knew it was too early to tell what the gender of the baby was, but we were anxious to find out whether it was one or two.  (Looking back, I realize that God placed this desire in our hearts for a reason, as we had never wanted twins in any of my mother’s other pregnancies.)

When my mom came back from her appointment, we all excitedly gathered around.  We could tell by the look of amazement on my mom’s face that it was twins.  She confirmed it with words, and we erupted with joy.  A few of us even cried happy tears.  ☺

It’s interesting to think back to that day as we had no idea what those two babies would bring to our life.  We just knew that we loved them and couldn’t wait to meet them.  My mom was blessed with a very healthy pregnancy (a rarity for twins, as we later learned), and our twin boys M&M were born in July 2005.

You can do the math and see that these baby boys are now 2 years old.  This is by far the most difficult stage of their lives (for the rest of us), but it is also one of the most fun and rewarding.  They are constantly making messes, but constantly showing love to one another.  They make us pull our hair out and laugh till we cry.  Just yesterday, as I was trying to put them down for their naps, they were crying to sleep with each other.  When I finally put them in the same bed, they giggled and talked to each other in a language I can’t understand.  Twins share a bond that singletons will never fully know.

Today I’d like to show you our five American Girl dolls.  Each of us girls (excepting baby C) owns one.

This is K’s doll, Josefina.  She is from the year 1824 and she lives in New Mexico.

My doll is Molly, from 1944.  Here she is with her puppy Bennett.  (Sorry the photo is a bit fuzzy!)

Samantha, A’s doll, is posing with Coconut.  She’s from 1904.

Here is Kit (C’s doll), with her dog Jip.  She’s from the year 1934.

And lastly, this is KA’s doll Elizabeth, from the year 1774.  Her pet lamb Posy is with her.

Thanks for visiting and taking a look at our dolls!  Go here to see more collections and treasures.

Bedroom Makeover: Part 2

Here are some pictures of the rearranged boys room:

It’s a bit bare, but at least it’s not too crowded.  We used to keep most of the toys in this room, and it was difficult to keep it clean.  Now with all the games and toys in the Playroom, it should be easier.

Bedroom Makeover

As promised, here are a few pictures of the new and improved girls’ room!

Unfortunately, I don’t have a before picture of this room, but I’ll tell you about some of the changes we made.  First of all, there was only one bunk bed in this room.  As you can see, there are now two bunk beds in order to accommodate all five of us girls (six eventually!).  We also put up some shelves and the bulletin board, sorted through many boxes of “stuff” we’d accumulated (and got rid of most of it), and took all the clothing out and put it in the clothing room.

It’s nice for us all to be together, although it does keep us up later at night.  ☺  But, I can’t see us regretting these late-night talks in the future as they keep us close despite the age difference.
